During my time in the social work field I learned many lessons about the link between housing and sustainable families and here are two of them:
Owning a home is expensive! Children that grow up in homes that are affordable coupled with communities that will nurture their interests and development become healthy and productive adults in society. We should only buy homes that we can easily manage financially.
Buying a home is difficult but not impossible. The real challenge is keeping it long term. In order to maintain stability and predictability within any household there needs to be a solid support system in place that can withstand the changes in the family, community and economy as a whole.
